In this paper, a new methodfor the improvement of the performance of magnetic filters for the removal ofdisperses mixtures with magnetic characteristics from industrial liquids andgases are investigated. In order to accelerate the reduction of theconcentration of dispersed mixture, it is suggested that the intensity of theexternal magnetic field throughout the magnetic filter should be adjustedregionally. In order to achieve this goal, an intermediate control circuit withPWM (Pulse Width Modulation) driver capable of driving the external magneticfields of magnetic filter regionally based on three regions was designed. ThedsPIC30F2010 Digital Signal Controller (DSC; Microchip®) is used inthe controller circuit. The experimental results shows that the concentrationof dispersed magnetic mixture contained in the aqueous suspension passed frommagnetic filter is reduced more efficiently. It is claimed that due to theadjustment of the external magnetic field intensity applied to the magneticfilters throughout the magnetic filter, the filter performance is increased, the electrical energy consumption is reduced, and the optimum design of magneticfilters is achieved.
